These foods are called negative calorie foods, because your body will burn more calories digesting them that actually contained in the foods themselves.
They are not actually negative calorie, since no food actually has negative calories but they will throw your body into a thermogenic state which will cause it to use more energy breaking down the food than is released from the chemical digestion of the food, thus a net loss of energy is experienced by the body.
The Negative Calorie diet works on the concept that certain negative calorie foods contain a surplus of vitamins and minerals which can speed up enzyme production in quantities sufficient to break down not only its own calories, but possible additional calories present in the digestion system.
A piece of chocolate cake consisting of 400 calories may require only 150 calories to be digested by our body, resulting in a net gain of 250 calories which is added to our body as fat! According to this theory, for example, if you eat 100 calories of a food that requires 150 calories to digest, then you’ve burnt an additional 50 calories simply by eating that food.
You should not attempt to do a negative calorie diet, because this will lead to malnutrition and actually slow down your metabolism because your body will think that you are starving it. However, these foods are essential parts of any healthy, balanced diet and can be used to lose weight.
